When I was brainstorming topics that I wanted to write on my blog I decided to stick to topics that I genuinely love and am passionate about.  One thing I love to do in my downtime is watch movies.  Some may say that movies and television are a waste of time, a meaningless and mindless act.  I have a different opinion.  So why do I love the movies?

PSB - The Movies and Why I Love Them

That’s probably a more accurate statement.  Watching a bad movie is an hour or two of your life that you will never get back.  I’m not going to lie, these days I fast forward through some movies if they suck, and that’s only if its half a decent movie.  The truly awful ones I just stop, ain’t nobody got time for that!

A great movie on the other hand, feels like it’s over before you know it.  It sucks you in right from the get go and doesn’t let you go.  Great movies are few and far between, but there are plenty of good movies out there.  Want to know what I think makes for a good movie?  Then be sure to check out my other post where I go into a bit more detail about that.

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to movies.  For me I don’t really discriminate but I do tend to watch a lot of actions, fantasy and adventure type movies.  I’m also a sucker for a good Rom Com from time to time, but who isn’t right? Anyone? No? (crickets chirping) OK, moving along….

There are two types of people in the world.  Those that grow up watching movies, and those that don’t.  As you might guess, I was part of the former group.  In a sense movies have been part of my life for such a long time it’s become sort of tradition.

When I was younger I can remember every Friday after school my parents taking us to the local video store to pick a movie to watch.  We’d pick a movie, go home, make snacks and watch the movie.  Cheap entertainment, but well spent quality time.

I still watch movies with my parents to this day, and hope to for some time to come.  Whether the movie is good or bad it doesn’t really matter, the fun comes from sharing in the experience and tradition.

In today’s day and age, among all the good, bad and ugly things that happen in everyday life, we often get too caught up.  Too caught up in work, too caught up in making a living, hustling, etc. that it can leave people feeling numb.  I think that this is why a lot of people as they get older often lose their sense of imagination.

As a kid growing up, every experience leaves you in awe and wonder.  The first bite of food, petting a dog, swimming or taking a plane ride.  Seemingly all simple experiences, yet all things that may have left you with a huge smile on your face as you first experienced them.

The longer you live, the more experiences you have and for better or worse, the less new experiences you may have, especially if you fall into too much routine.  This is why some people lose a bit of their sense of wonder or imagination.  Movies to me help remind you that there is always something new to be discovered.  A new adventure to be had, if you just keep you mind open to the possibilities.

I’m going to dedicate a little bit of the posts on this blog to the movies.  From reviewing movies I enjoyed, listing my favorites, giving recommendations or just discussing movies in-depth.  There will be something on here for all the movie buffs out there as well as the casual movie watcher.

Now that you’ve heard why I like the movies, what do all you movie lovers out there like about movies?  Feel free to leave comments and discuss below!
